0 Upgrade Moodle 2.7.11 to 2.9.4


Manual for upgrading Moodle

0. View directory sizes.
{
sudo du -sh /var/www/moodle ; 
sudo du -sh /var/moodledata ; 
}

1. Back up your Moodle installation & DB:
{
sudo cp -a /var/www/moodle /home/janis/moodle_backup ;
sudo cp -a /var/moodledata /home/janis/moodledata_backup ;
sudo mysqldump -u root -p1234 moodle > /home/janis/mdb010816.sql ;
}

2. Clean moodle directory&download new installation.
{
cd /var/www/moodle/ ; 
sudo cp /var/www/moodle/config.php /home/janis/;
rm -rf * ; 
wget download.moodle.org/stable29/moodle-2.9.4.tgz ;
sudo tar -xvf moodle-2.9.4.tgz --strip 1 ;
rm -rf moodle-2.9.4.tgz ;
}

3. Change file&directory permissions for upgrade process.
{
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/moodledata ;
sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www ;
sudo chmod -R 777 /var/moodledata ;
sudo chmod -R 0777 /var/www/moodle ;
sudo chmod -R g+rw /var/www ;
sudo cp /home/janis/config.php /var/www/moodle ;
sudo service apache2 restart ;
}

4. Open in Browser 127.0.0.1 or IP of your server and perform database upgrade.

5. If SSL error, then :
sudo nano /var/www/moodle/config.php  
add  
$CFG->loginhttps=false; 

6. Revert access rights.
{
sudo chmod -R 755 /var/www/moodle
sudo service apache2 restart ;
}
